SonoClear has reached its funding goal, and the round was oversubscribed. The company raised more than it aimed for.

Along with its existing investors and owners, much of the new capital came from family-owned investment companies. SonoClear is grateful for their trust.

“This new funding will support SonoClear through the final stages of product testing and clinical evaluation, which will take place in Germany, as we work toward FDA approval,” said Peter Balmforth, CEO.

Strong interest from family offices: The company has generated strong new interest from Norwegian family-owned investment companies that see the value in its technology. SonoClear also has the support of its owners, SINTEF, Sarsia, Cofounder and SMN, and all its other shareholders. Without them, this would not have been possible.

The market: Brain cancer is a rare disease, but it has a great impact on patients and the people around them. SonoClear’s tissue-mimicking technology is designed to improve image quality in intraoperative ultrasound, which is used to identify and target tumor tissue. This means the company’s market opportunity is tied to the use of intraoperative ultrasound.

In conversations with neurosurgeons around the world, SonoClear has seen that it has the potential to increase the use of intraoperative ultrasound, and so grow the overall market, regardless of which company makes the ultrasound equipment. In other fields, ultrasound use is growing quickly because it is easy to use, flexible and cheaper to invest in than alternative technologies. The company expects the same development in neurosurgery.

About SonoClear: SonoClear was founded in 2016 and grew out of the ultrasound and image-guided therapy community in Trondheim. Its technology is the result of collaboration between surgeons and engineers from St. Olavs Hospital, NTNU and the research foundation SINTEF. The company is developing an advanced acoustic coupling fluid, called the SonoClear System. It is designed to improve diagnostic accuracy in ultrasound-guided procedures, especially in neurosurgery.

The SonoClear System is not currently available for sale.
